Redefine partner meeting in Tallinn

The work within MÄN’s international Redefine program is in full swing and will enter its fourth year at the turn of the year. In October, the partner organizations gathered for a regional meeting in Tallinn, Estonia.

MÄN’s Redefine program in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus aims to support organizations working on norm-changing initiatives that engage men and boys in advancing gender equality and preventing violence. As part of the program, we’ve created a platform for exchanging knowledge and experience, with our regional meetings serving as a key component.

At the meeting in Tallinn, conversations focused on how we can support men without losing sight of women’s vulnerability to violence, how organizations can navigate increasingly repressive political contexts, and what we actually mean when we talk about “redefining masculinity.”

Discussions also centered on the role of facilitators in men’s dialogue groups, as well as the importance of crafting questions that encourage men to reflect on gender norms without feeling attacked.

Nineteen participants from five partner organizations took part in the meeting. The group worked with role-play, “small room” exercises, dramatizations, lectures, and discussions.

The meeting resulted in strengthened collaboration among colleagues across countries, a deeper understanding of our different contextual challenges, and—last but not least—a much-needed sense of warmth, hope, and resilience in these times of backlash.
